A while back, my Mom wrote a book called The Pollock Pines Epic that contained the local history about the town I grew up in (and where my parent’s still live today). The first edition of the book was published in 1988, and was followed by revision 2 in 1995.
Mom was doing research and found the following picture that somebody out there must be interested in. The picture was taken March 25, 1915 in Montana, probably Lincoln County.
Way back in April or May, Chip and Joanne sent out a note saying to reserve the weekend of July 12th and 13th for a camping trip to Winfield Colorado. As a group, we’ve stayed in this location a number of times before. There’s a number of large places to set up group camping, an outhouse for the people who prefer not to use the great outdoors. My only complaint: I’m going to have to buy a camper. I’m getting too old (and/or lazy?) to have to crawl in and out of a tent!!!? I’ll use the excuse of “I hate setting up a tent in the rain”… Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.
On the weekend of May 17th, Erie had it’s annual Balloon Festival. I met Gregg again this year, quite early in the AM. The difference this year? We sat around an waited a LONG time for people to start launching. Last year, they were launching at sunrise, but for some reason, at sunrise, none of the launch teams had even showed up yet. They started trickling in shortly after sunrise, and took at least a couple hours to set up and launch.
On May 3rd, Gregg called the group together to do a Photowalk in Boulder, CO.
Gregg and I have shot on Pearl Street Mall before, but this time, he published the walk at Photowalking.org, and he got quite a few more people to join us.
Kelsey Hogge is getting ready to leave on a Mission to the Manchester, England area (not England Manchester!!!) for the next 18 months, so we all decided we’d better get together, as this may be the last full family reunion opportunity for about the next 12 years as each of the kids start out their young adult lives. I’ll be adding some more detail to this post as time allows, but wanted to get the pictures posted as quickly as possible.
A trip to Arches National Park
A photo excursion to Canyonlands National Park / Dead Horse Point State Park.
About a year ago, Gregg mentioned that our photography group needed to do a photo trip to Canyonlands and Arches National Park. Finally, we decided to just pick a weekend, and Presidents Day weekend seemed like a good time since everybody usually skis that weekend. We got very lucky in that it snowed quite a bit the Wednesday before we got there, so we had the combination of red rock, white snow and blue sky. Very patriotic! It would have been great to be there for the full lunar eclipse this week, but maybe in 2010 for the next one… 🙂
