Jewel of Kahana - Great Room

Jewel of Kahana – Great Room

I was lucky enough to get invited to come to Maui and stay with Jeff and Patty Aubery at a property they built called the Jewel of Kahana. It’s a huge house on a half acre oceanfront lot, outfitted with the latest technology, and absolutely stunning. Two floors with lower walls that retract completely, leaving the entire house open.

And location? Right on the bay of Napili, just north of Lahina.

I got to spend a week there with great friends, and met a bunch of people that I believe I was destined to meet at some point in my life. There were way too many coincidences in our stories. 🙂

It was a great, relaxing trip, except for the last day when I decided to take the camera and drive around the whole island. I did skip the northern loop because I wanted to see the Iao Needle by the airport, but then I headed to Hana, the Sacred Pools, and came around the south-west side of the island. It was about a 14 hour photography day.

After the break below, I’ve included about 50 pictures from the many hundreds I shot. I may add some others later, but in the interest of getting something up on the web, I ‘m posting some samples.

Very nicely done. Looks like a great time was had by all too.

Did you make it up to that area I mentioned in my email?

Gregg,

Thanks! It was a very relaxing trip, as I only spent one full day “on the road with the cameras”.

I did get to the Iao Valley State Park, but there really wasn’t much up there. A loop trail that took about 15 minutes to walk, and the “Iao needle”. I did walk up the river basin a little (not supposed to go off the trail) for some water pix. There’s a section down below that has a little Korean style park, but it was over-run with two bus loads of tourists so I didn’t even stop. It’d make for some good pix if not full of people.

Next time I think I might rent a BMW Cross-Country motorcycle for a day, and take the full loop road. The only section I missed was the northern end down to the airport. That looks like a BEAUTIFUL rugged drive from Google Earth. And I’d spend a night in Hana so I could hit the Seven Pools at sunrise. That would make for some stunning shots. Then from there to Haleakea Crater for sunset.

So when are we going?!?!? 🙂
