Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Parker

February 20, 2009 12:00 pm

Now that I have your attention, Play my brother got married today Play to a wonderful young woman.

Scott and Candice Parker

Scott and Candice Parker

Scott married into the “Knotts” family from Spanish Fork, UT, and Candice married into the Parker family from Pollock Pines, CA.

Scott’s entire “extended family” headed for American Fork, Utah, with only two exceptions: Kelsey, who’s on her mission in England right now, and Chris, who’s busily studying for the California Bar Exam. We missed them both! We took over one end of a floor of the new Springhill Suites in Lehi, UT (nice place, by the way, and Ashley was invaluable in our planning).

The wedding was held at the American Forks Temple, with a luncheon at Maglesby’s, followed by a reception at the Bungalow.

I’ve posted a temporary gallery of pictures at http://www.parkerpress.com/Misc/Parkers. Be aware that the location of that gallery and it’s content will be changing. I’ll be updating this post soon, but wanted to get it up on the web ASAP.

The Pollock Pines Epic

July 30, 2008 9:05 am

A while back, my Mom wrote a book called The Pollock Pines Epic that contained the local history about the town I grew up in (and where my parent’s still live today). The first edition of the book was published in 1988, and was followed by revision 2 in 1995.

This book has been out of print since then, and Mom has finally sold all the copies she printed. Rather than update it and do another print run, we discussed putting the content on the web.

While we’re not relinquishing the Copyright on the book, we did want to make it available to others for reading. So… being the “geek” I am, I created a website at http://www.thepollockpinesepic.com/ to host the uploaded book. I’ll be adding the embedded photos soon, as well as a photo album for pictures that weren’t originally associated with the book itself.

Kelsey’s pre-mission weekend

April 21, 2008 9:23 pm

Kelsey Hogge is getting ready to leave on a Mission to the Manchester, England area (not England Manchester!!!) for the next 18 months, so we all decided we’d better get together, as this may be the last full family reunion opportunity for about the next 12 years as each of the kids start out their young adult lives. I’ll be adding some more detail to this post as time allows, but wanted to get the pictures posted as quickly as possible.

Sam and Will's Lacrosse Game As part of the weekend, we attended Sam and Will Holden’s Lacross games down at UOP in Stockton. I’d never seen a live game before and although it’s a little more physical than I thought, there’s quite a bit of finesse that goes into it.
Perfect repose.... After spending the afternoon watching the two games, we returned back to the Hogges house to to just hang out and play.
On Sunday, Kelsey gave a presentation at Church, and we took that “all dressed up” opportunity to shoot some family pictures.

Genealogy Updates

January 3, 2008 4:33 pm

It’s been a couple years (literally) since I updated the web version of the Genealogy research that Mom has been doing. Click on the “Genealogy” page on the left, or on this link to see the updates.

As always, please let me know if you have any issues with the data that is there.

Family Portrait Updates

December 16, 2007 6:43 pm

I’ve added a new “feature” to the yearly Family Faces gallery that shows everybody at 1 year old, 2 years old, etc, up to 18 years old. Let me know if you forgot (or never had) the password.

I’ve also sent a request to each family for the missing pictures to hopefully fill in all the blanks.

My Brother can FLY!!!

October 4, 2007 8:27 pm

A quick story from one day in my brother Scott’s life. He sent out this email to family with the subject “How not to get fired from your job as a rafting guide” (he worked as a guide on the American River.)

Starting in a hole

Starting in a hole

Just tell your crew you are going to do a back flip out the back of the boat in the middle of the rapid.

Be sure to position a young kid holding on to a lashing rope on the bow of the raft prior to going into the major rapid where there is a professional photographer.

When the boat is starting to gather tension as it is flexing, get ready to spring.

Give yourself a little push

Give yourself a little push

Just as the boat reaches it’s apex, push with your legs with all your might.

In Memory of 9/11/2001

September 11, 2006 8:27 pm

On this 5th anniversary of 9/11/2001, I was thinking back to where I was on that date. I was re-reading my original messages and stories from our trip home after 9/11. Yes, we were there, and yes, we fared far better than many, many people.

As long as I live, I will remember that day, and the people who helped us get through it. From Ric and Laura Basanese who worked in the city, to their friends apartment on the upper-west side where we waited for the trains to restart. To that Bartender at the Mexican restaurant who poured a Kamakazie in a Beer Mug (who does that?!?!?) To the managers in Mamaroneck who let us stay in a furnished condo while we tried to figure out how to get back home. To the miles and miles and miles of corn on the drive from New York to Denver. All the flags on the bridges, all the road signs that were altered with prayers and blessings for the USA. And yes, Tom, even that the time zone does shift between Ohio and Lincoln Nebraska… :)

I will always remember the spirit of everybody we met on 9/11 and the following days, and how we all came together to help each other through something that was beyond comprehension.
