    • Immigrant: In 1580 William studied at Cambridge University, but did not get a degree.He was bailiff and Postmaster of Scrooby, Eng. for 17 years. He became one of the leaders of a group of Seperatists with whom he escaped to The Netherlands in 1608. He served there as a ruling elder and a Printerin Layden, Holland, printing religious books that displeased King James I of England. He came to America on board the "Mayflower" in 1620. Brewster founded the Congregational Church in Plymouth and became the religious head of the church in Mass. until a minister arrived.
