A year of Solar Power and some very accurate early estimates….

Well, it’s been just over a year since I had the solar panels turned on, and I’ve learned one important lesson:

Either Bella Energy did a perfect job of estimating my energy usage for the entire year, and sold me the exact right number of solar panels needed to generate that exact amount of energy I’d [...]

Front Range Photographic Society (FRPS) has moved!

The website for the Front Range Photographic Society (FRPS) has moved to a Facebook group located here.
We were not really “active” and the only thing that was really getting used was the mailing list, so I decided to stop paying for it, and move it to Facebook.
I still have access to all photos, files and [...]

More “green home” work (well, rework really)

The latest update in the “Greening” effort was to replace my old X10 Thermostat (TXB-16) with a new Venstar T1800 7 day programmable thermostat, and then hook up an INSTEON adapter to it that will let a product called Indigo on my home control computer run it.
By itself, the new thermostat is considerably more powerful [...]

Santa Barbara Sunsets

I happened to be working in Santa Barbara during the last week, and caught a couple nights of stunning sunsets. I didn’t go out the first night with the camera, we just sat on Patty and Jeff’s deck and watched it. But tonight, I couldn’t “not go”. I drove down to Shoreline Park (on the [...]

Painting the Steamboat Barn with Light

Gregg and I tried an experiment “painting” the Steamboat Barn with light tonight. It was 15 degrees out there, about a half hour after sundown. Gregg brought a halogen spotlight and “painted” the barn while we shot exposures about 30 seconds in length. Gregg’s shots on his D90 turned out WAY better than mine, for [...]

Green home upgrade continues with TED 5000

My green home upgrade continues with the addition of a product from a company name The Energy Detective called TED 5000. Basically this is a meter that let’s me keep an eye on energy usage with both the feed from Xcelenergy (the power company here) and my solar panels. It’s something only a guy could [...]

And snow it goes…

They warned us on the news over the weekend. People ignored it as usual. They warned us again on Monday. So I took the Harley out for a ride on a nice fall day. They warned us again on Tuesday, but it was cloudy and windy, with lots of fall leaves in the air, so [...]

2nd annual 4th of July block party

We held our 2nd annual Fourth of July block party this year, and it was another successful, if not slightly more sane party. We wrapped it up at 1:30am this year instead of 3am, and it only took an hour to clean up the streets the next morning. And, just to be clear, I have [...]

Shawn and Michele’s Wedding

I was asked to help out a friend and shoot pictures for her wedding (a few pics appear after the break). Little did I know it would be 102 in San Jose that weekend, but I did it anyway. Luckily it was not a suit-type wedding, or we would have had to turn on the [...]
